Connected Learning Communities
The new model created is called connected learning communities (shown below). Within these connected learning communities, there are far more ways to connect with others around the world. The advantages of such global connections are numerous and far-reaching, impacting both educators and students in profound ways. The new model is a three-pronged approach to professional development.
- Professional Learning Communities
- Personal Learning Network
- Community of Practice or Inquiry
Personal learning networks are about individuals working themselves to gather information that they will benefit from. This interaction can take place either individually, face-to-face, and online. Since these individuals know their own strengths and weaknesses, they will know exactly what areas they need to improve on. By carrying out their own research, students in their classroom will benefit greatly. In the future, these educators may be able to share their findings with their colleagues in professional learning communities.
Communities of practice are focused on building a shared identity and intelligence. These communities must be made up from individuals with a common interest. The main purpose of these communities is to gather together and share their knowledge with each other. This can involve other educators around the world. This interaction can take place collectively, face-to-face, or online.
After I read and learned about this three-pronged approach, I learned it will benefit educators greatly. This system is also able to expand past educators alone. For example, I. may go into speech language pathology one day. A speech language pathologist may benefit just as much from this system as an educator. An individual in any profession will never know everything, and there are always ways to expand their knowledge and even share their expertise with others in the same field. As I go into my future career, I will keep this system in mind and try to find resources outside of the building I am in.
Hey Alexa! This is an awesome first blog post. I feel like you were extremely descriptive and provided tons of information. Technology in the education career is so helpful but most people only think of the basic functions for it. You went a different way than most people would consider and discussed connections for educators. Networking and connecting with those in our careers can help us succeed that much more. It also gives us people to bounce ideas off of and support from one another. That can be extremely necessary in any career, but especially education. Many people overlook the effort it takes to be an educator and tools such as technology help infinitely. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI love how thorough you are in your blog! The information is very well put together and the visuals are such a great addition to the post. I know for me, seeing things can help me to understand things better. I have an appreciation for this information because I feel that it can really apply to so many career fields if not all of them! It is such an important thing that gets easily overlooked especially by those who have been doing it one way for so long and do not want to change. But this change is so beneficial! Awesome post!
